What Does It Mean to Be a Non-Profit School?

You’ve likely heard the term non-profit used in relation to schools, but what does it mean in practice, and why does it matter to families?

Being non-profit is more than a status. It shapes how we invest in our school.

Every euro ISD receives, whether through tuition, fundraising or other contributions, is reinvested into the school. There are no shareholders or dividends, and school funds are not used to generate returns for owners through related commercial structures. Our resources stay within ISD, supporting our people, programmes, facilities and campus.

We invest in what matters most: our students.

That investment can be seen throughout ISD: in our teachers and programmes, our learning environments, technology, infrastructure and the exceptional breadth of opportunities available to our students.

Going Further: The Role of Fundraising

Fundraising has been part of ISD’s story for generations.

In fact, some of the facilities our community enjoys today exist because ISD families before us chose to invest in the future of the school. The Elementary School campus and outstanding Senior School facilities such as our Centres for Excellence, Science Suite and the Sports and Community Centre were made possible with significant support from past ISD families.

That tradition continues today.

Tuition enables ISD to deliver the high-quality education, programmes, facilities and experiences our families expect. Fundraising gives us an additional opportunity to be ambitious: to accelerate important projects, invest in new ideas and technologies, transform spaces and create opportunities that can benefit students for years to come.

It is about building on what we already have and asking: what can we make possible next?
